Photo of the Day: New London Ledge Lighthouse, CT, in the fog

New London Ledge Lighthouse is at the mouth of the Thames River, near Groton and New London, Connecticut.

This was taken early in the morning after I had spent the night inside the lighthouse with the New England Ghost Project and a TV crew from "American Builder." New London Ledge Lighthouse has a reputation for being haunted. (See www.ghostvillage.com/resources/2007/gc_10032007.shtml)

  1. Wow thats a great and rather spooky atmospheric shot, I don't think there is any such thing as ghosts though. I think because of the history that surrounds these buildings and because of their age people like to think they are hunted and I suspect ones like this one creak a bit. Thanks for sharing, I bet people are glad of the lighthouse with weather like that:)

  2. I agree that most "hauntings" probably involve some imagination. I know, however, that the man's voice I heard say, "Hello!" at the top of the stairs at Portsmouth Harbor Light wasn't creaking. Maybe there's another explanation, but I haven't figured it out.

The bottom line for me regarding ghosts is, "I don't know." I think of myself as skeptical, with an open mind.
